How do I select map entities with the keyboard?
The Map Editor has a keyboard entity selection mode for selecting meaningful map objects without clicking the canvas.
Start selection mode
- Focus the map preview.
- Press Enter or Space to start map entity selection.
- Press Alt+M from anywhere in the editor to move focus to the map and start map entity selection.
Move between entities
- Press Tab to move to the next entity.
- Press Shift+Tab to move to the previous entity.
- Press the arrow keys to select the nearest entity in that direction.
- Press F to filter the current level by entity type.
Level 1 includes areas plus corridor-like connections, including direct doorways. Press Enter on an area or corridor to move into its child entities: props, stairs, portals, and labels when they are editable or meaningful.
Work with selected entities
- Press Enter on a child entity to enter manipulation mode when that entity supports keyboard movement.
- In manipulation mode, arrow keys move the selected child entity when supported; Shift+Arrow moves farther.
- Press T to move focus between the selected entity and its contextual toolbar.
- Existing shortcuts such as Delete, Backspace, Ctrl+D/Cmd+D, R, and scale shortcuts still work from the selected entity or toolbar, but not while typing in editable fields.
Leave selection mode
Press Escape to back out one level. From child selection it returns to the parent area or corridor; from Level 1 it exits selection mode. Backspace and Delete remain destructive shortcuts, not navigation.
